My favorite part of the reading this week is about the myth of photographic truth. I've always been big into taking pictures capturing moments. Enjoyed the Trolley photo on page 19. Being an emotional person that sees pictures and really feels them. The story in these old truth photos really mean more than just a picture. It shows struggle, heartache, and strength through a troubled time.
A tragedy that has taken place this year that photos really draw attention and brought not only a state but also a nation together is the Boston Marathon Bombing, which a student and I where talking about in class. Two of my cousins where running this particular morning and took photos of this tragedy, luckily they weren't injured, but the photos when I saw them on Facebook really hit home, reality, truth in the making, captured forever.
Less than a month after the bombing a little girl in Disneyworld, Florida was wearing a picture of a person, and under it said Boston Strong. I asked her if the shirts where for sale and if she knew the person in the photo. Her words was that it was her father. That really was a moment, a face not forgotten to this day. Her wearing that shirt made a statement one photo, two words.
We may forget tragedies they're on the news one day and gone the next but photography catches that moment and makes a statement in the eyes of everyone differently and is a remembrance when its hard to remember.
