Emma Ferreira

Of course everyone is doing a lot of research on artists and designers for our portfolios and of course I've come across many inspirational artists. one I fell in love with is Emma Ferreira's work. She like myself started off painting and from there got interested in photography. Her work is very beautiful and tells stories and captures female beauty.

Things that inspire me that she does is of course she is a very publicly influential artist but she also has passion to giving back to children. This is something that caught my attention on her page that she is involved in education for children. This is something I have experience doing myself with working at ARC of tri-cities as well as well as myself having my ECE background.

Of course none of this takes away from her artistic view which involves movement photography as well as motivational words. Here are some examples of her photography works and oil paintings.

Sakura-con 2014

Today in downtown Seattle I got to see many people walking the streets dressed up as their favorite Anima charector's. In Seattle's Convention center this weekend people are buying/trading and just having a good time celebrating their favorite Japanese anime character. This is a place to see costumes when its not even halloween, artists selling anime drawings and graphics, merchandisers everywhere and people just meeting new people. To check out guests at convention and scheduling go to http://www.sakuracon.org.

These eggs are already up for auction starting at $500, the bids are already up some over $360,000.00.

Seattle Merging Artists Call

I did some research of how to get one of the Street art projects in Seattle and found the call for artists page on Seattle.gov. Some merging Artists that have participated in the street arts in Seattle are Tim Marsden, Sam Trout, Joanne Lepore, and Breanne Gearheart as well as many others. The nice thing is that neighborhood communities can create maintain public artwork in their own neighborhoods supported by Seattle's community. At this time they are looking for new artists for a street project in May and have open submissions at this time. Here are some of the previous work done...

Let the Artwork Convince you Not the Brand

I Think Bejamin Genocchio (don't ask me to pronounce this) Makes a good point in his article posted in ArtnetNews

He talks about how new artists have to brand themselves in fashion rather than be themselves to sell and if this is not accomplish they tend to fail to succeed within the art community. Genocchio really likes seeing unbiased work that can be viewed freely by the public where us as viewers can decide wether the art is good or bad....

This article has really good points and just reminded me how everything we see often is because the branding is big and the advertising budget is there. Your not going to see the mom and pop shops on your big TV stations during commercial time your only going to see what is already profiting.

Rene Daniels "Metro Pictures"

Read a article today that totally caught my eye and emotionally drew me in as a reader. It completely got me thinking about Alyssa, Ester, and Amanda's intervention from class again  and how everyone is creative in their own way. Rene Daniels is a disabled (retarded) artist thats work is making big again after 30 years of creating water color paintings his work is sold between 12 and 41 thousand dollars and really shares a unique perspective on who can do art and who is good at art. Rene's work has been sought out by galleries around Europe in the 80's unfortunately Rene's inability to create new work at least from what was thought at the time took him out of galleries and now 30 years later new work is coming out and old work is being found from storages there are new exhibitions taking place around Europe and the United States

RAFAEL LOZANO-HEMMER

I have been doing some research of RAFAEL LOZANO-HEMME, his work is very interesting to me his Main interest is in creating platforms for public participation, by perverting technologies such as robotics, computerized surveillance or telematics networks. I really like seeing work that has participation from viewers and this piece I found reminds me of the piece previously blogged about by aus Des Lehrers building art contest.... Both are done through participation of application, viewed publicly in large cities and both of course containing light imaging and are very beautiful. I really would like to conduct or participate in one of these active pieces.

RAFAEL LOZANO-HEMMEH has had over 65 exhibited pieces of work and has published many books as well as taught at many prestigious Universities. This work is more recent in 2012! but he has been around since 1990 when his first exhibit was shown called the Dancers Answer Questions, Banff National Park, Banff, Alberta, Canada.....

Network Surveilence

We have seen work in previous classes on surveillance and how easy it is to get video of someone This is why the piece by Julia Scher to me was funny since it really is outdated technology wise but still a piece that can represent the presence.

There are still many pieces of art culture jamming privacy and surveillance a piece I came up with in more recent years is Anne Callier's piece called, Under Surveillance, done in 2009 and hung in 2011 high line, New York City.

One thing I found interesting is her work looks older, though I know she is still doing work since she is not very old but I could not find her website. I saw her work through art galleries but not on a personal page? I am going to look farther into this since I'm sure she must have something.

Ping Body

This piece of work is very interesting, The electronic media website actually has videos linked to this work and videos of how the system works. Stelarc is a performance artist exploring human/machine interactions. I wanted to know the importance of the third hand and threw a little research found out that there is actually history with the designed third hand that was completed in 1980, it was originally designed for a permanent arm attachment but because of issues with the device is used for performance purposes. With amplified body signals and sound have contributed to cyborg discourses of the body Which was used in the Ping Body performance at DEAF96.

Electronic Media websites

I was looking up art electronic websites for laser shows since this is something big being shown at a lot of science museums that people tend to enjoy seeing. I came across Van der Heide's 2007 work where he uses sine waves to create sound and visual patterns. The sound is actually quite interesting  and complex not the same as Seattle Science Center or Portland Omsi puts on with Micheal Jackson and the Beattles! Cant lie the kids love it, my daughter wanted to see the laser show over and over again.

Candy ART

Well no lie this awful holiday for the hallmark, candy companies, florals to make a quick buck is not only on my mind tonight but I thought I'd get it off my chest my sharing intriguing  uncommon art work that would work for this holiday not to just engage viewers but maybe stop thinking about their favorite candy as being appealing anymore taste wise that is.... so here it goes!

This first piece is made out of candy hearts by Nathan Sawaya!

The second piece is a chandelier made out of gummy bears by Yaya Chou, would you eat this if you had it in your room?

Valentines Day Heart Art on large building

Well since I saw this in our book on page 114, I found it perfect timing to talk about it and other works that generated thanks to Haus Des Lehrers building art contest. Now thanks to the Iphone app in 2008 called Stereoscope, everyone with the app could display blinkenlights, light show across the Toronto city Hall's all 960 windows and of course stream it live!!!!

It is said that the reaction to the Application is overwhelming and showed just the technology of the first version Iphone and what 3D on the phone was like...

Super Bowl Commercial and Technology

Well I thought the commercials where far from my favorite EVER but one that stood out for me is Microsofts commercial on Technology advancement and they did a great job at sharing it and drawing emotion from viewers! Here is the commercial that brought meaning to advancement in technology for 2014!

Tony Oursler

I found page 90 to be interesting on how internet support of web based artistry came about. I also liked the face work done by Tony Oursler and decided to find some updated work that he is created within the digital media. In September Oursler had his work "the inaugural exhibition" in the Adobe Museum of Virtual Media. He also did this piece for an album "Where Are We Now?" is the first single from David Bowie's 24th studio album, The Next Day. The single was released, with a video by Oursler, January 8 2013, Bowie's 66th birthday.

Local Inspirations Rastovich

I am always inspired by art the is hands on design and wanted to share some work by a local artist that is really talented without any sort of education and does sculptures that are just amazing and breath taking in my opinion. Josepth Rastovich has done many local pieces that you may have seen around the city and really didn't know who to give credit to for these great pieces of design and art.

This vine and grape peice is located at historic downtown kennewick

This bike rack is at kennewick high school

This piece is a private piece that I want!

Article from New York Times

Well this article got me thinking about us as students and how we are re-modernizing these famous art pieces to make meaning for our generation.  This is just something that we do to keep art interesting and  inspire we talk a lot in class about how hard it is in the art community to make money and how most artists need to work besides creating art weather it be in teaching or anything else that interests a person. But regardless of the difficulties in being an artists (artists still exist in forms and generate money.)

I found it interesting that Holland Cotter talked about the white community getting the most credit in art. I never really took this into an account. Maybe its because I work where I get to tour a lot of indian communities art and culture and have a wide spread of cultural background thanks to my family. But he did get me thinking about this and its impact.

Most of my thoughts about this article was on my education and where education has shifted my inspirations in creating art and my personal thoughts about the art world and where I see me myself come into place in it.

Robotic "names" done by David Rokeby

Robotics are everywhere, we each own more than a dozen robotics. As a kid I use to want a robot so bad to clean my room and all other choirs assigned at home. I use to think a robot is like the movie 'Bicentennial Man"played by Robbin Williams where they they have to be made of medal and look like humans. Now I know better I had a robot all along, it was called a "Washing Machine".

Today robotics are used everywhere and they can be artistic as well like discussed in the book. David Rokeby has done many artistic work that gets viewers thinking. For example in 1990 Rokeby created an art project piece that could name body parts it was called the "THE GIVER OF NAMES" a peice The Giver of Names is in the collection of the Agnes Etherington Arts Centre, Queen's University, Kingston, Canada. This was both interactive and really interesting.

Here is what it looks like

Electric Lights as an Artistic Medium

After reading page 19 I really started thinking about how light fixtures are being designed more appealing. A lot of light fixtures I have seen lately are almost like your making an artistic puzzle, everywhere you are seeing paper and plastic light fixtures being sold and in ways that anyone can design their own.

Another GREEN thing that is becoming big in restaurants and small businesses are recycled bottles as light fixtures, these bottles as design layout are very appealing to the eye. One bar I saw this in this weekend was actually Red Robins in Spokane Valley's bar... I instantly wanted to take a picture for Pinterest but was told NO! :-(

Edward Muybridge

In our readings we are talking about how artists are using media works to show motion. There is a serious of chronophotography captioning motion done by Muybridge which is quite fascinating for its times during the 1870s. So I looked up other forms of photography capturing motion by Muybridge and these are just a few of what I came up with.

To me it is like I am looking at images meant for a flip-book laid out flat.

Technology becoming obsolete

The books overview of technology on page 14 and 15 is very interesting and gets you thinking about how fast technology is changing and how people are adapting so quickly. One thing about this degree is that it is so technology based that in ten years this degree will probably be completely changed.

An example of this happening that comes to mind is with the DTC tour of Walla Walla University during winter quarter and how they had camera equipment that is obsolete for today's students use. We never know what the future has in store for us technology wise but one thing we are know is that technology we buy today is outdated very quickly for example computers and video games. Here is an article I read on the subject...

When does technology become obsolete?

New Quarter New Ideas

Hey everyone, thought I'd start with quarter off with some interesting sites I saw over the break. I happened to be in Seattle to do some shopping when I took a tour of a special  project exhibit taking place in Seattle Washington by an Australian artist known as Konstantin Dimopoulos who has turned trees in Seattle blue to get people thinking about deforestation. The Blue is very blue and draws attention to itself.

See more about this project http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2017895829_bluetrees.html
