This photo was shown to two of my mother friends that have not breast fed their children at a younger age. They took this photo as pornography rather than nurturing. Where myself as a mother who breast fed for 2 full years takes this photo as a historical fact that breastfeeding is nurturing and natural.
Culturally times have changed many woman today choose not to breastfeed and for some reason think its not necessary anymore. When I asked my friends why they thought the breast hanging out was inappropriate, both gave me similar responses that everyone knows that nursing happens, the boob just should not be showing.
Being a mother that has nursed, remembers how nursing is viewed in our society as something private. People think nursing mothers should nurse in bathrooms or at home. This photo is supporting a purpose the breast is the significance in the picture without it exposed the meaning changes.
The USA can't handle any form of nudity without tears I think. (unless it is blatantly objectifying women in over 18 magazines) You should look up the Miller. v California case, besides the judge saying "i know it when i see it" it also I think talks about how these things are a "community standard" so it certainly makes sense here that people are offended and think nudity will scar their children or whatever...
